The Beths is that rare band that gives you all the emotions in one gig. The plucky four-piece out of Auckland, New Zealand is fronted by vocalist and guitarist Elizabeth Stokes, whose frank and self-deprecating lyrics are lovingly pored over by fans. Stokes has also picked up two nominations for New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting honour, The Silver Scroll Award.
The Beths burst onto the scene with 2018 debut album, Future Me Hates Me, powered by the catchy harmonies and fast riffs of its bittersweet title track. The band’s 2020 follow-up, Jump Rope Gazers, mines the same themes of anxiety and self-doubt through slower tempos and the occasional power-pop chorus.
A true ‘band’s band’, The Beths have winningly supported the likes of Pixies, the Breeders, Weezer and Death Cab For Cutie. Jump Rope Gazers opens with the song ‘I’m Not Getting Excited’, but you have our permission to get excited.
